New Patients

Whatever previous dental experiences you may have had in the past, BM Withers would be happy to welcome you into the practice and get you booked in for an initial consultation with Dentist Ben Withers. Ben will discuss your individual dental requirements and help ensure you are treated in a professional and welcoming environment at all times. New Patients are always welcome and our friendly team is passionate about providing you with excellent dental care. Our practice is open to all from the very young to the very old and we take great pride at treating all our patients with the respect they deserve using our strong family values.

First visit new patients - New Patient Assessment

When you come for an assessment as a new patient here’s what to expect:

• We will ask you to complete a Confidential Medical History Form.  Please remember to bring in a list of any medication that you are taking.
• We will then invite you into our modern treatment room for an initial consultation with Ben. It is important we find out about your daily oral cleaning and dietary habits. What previous dental treatments you have had, any dental anxieties you may have, and if there is any particular concerns that you have with your teeth.
• Your dentist will then complete a thorough examination during which they will look at the teeth, gums, and check the jaw joints. Checking the soft tissues inside & outside as part of an oral cancer screen. We may take Low dose digital x-rays if required.
• We will then explain any findings and give recommendations for treatment. All options will be discussed to allow you to make an appropriate informed choice. We will provide you with a clear detailed treatment plan and estimate of treatment costs. You will be given the opportunity to ask any questions that you may have.

Some patients will require very little dental treatment.  If so we will recommend an appropriate preventive programme for you straight away. If more complex treatment is required a second visit maybe required to guide you through all the options and allow you to make an informed decision on your treatment.. The initial consultation normally takes 20 -30 minutes to complete after which our nurse/reception team will look after scheduling appointments for you and answering any questions.

Regular Dental Care

Once we are happy that you have reached a good level of dental health, we encourage you to visit us regularly for dental examinations and advice. We believe the key to keeping your teeth for life is to give you the skills and knowledge for good dental care at home.

Together we aim to prevent any problems and maintain your teeth to the highest standards.

Appointments

If you need to reschedule an appointment please give us 24 hours notice. This helps us run the appointment diary as efficiently as possible so that we can keep waiting times to a minimum. Failure to cancel with adequate notice may result in a charge.

For your convenience we operate a text reminder system for appointments. Please make sure we have your mobile phone number if you would like to receive these reminders.

Emergency care

If you have a dental emergency during normal practice hours, please call us 02825652565 to arrange a suitable appointment. We will aim to see you on the same day. For out of hours emergency dental care, we are part of the Dalriada relief of dental pain rota - Out of hours Relief of Dental Pain

The Relief of Dental Pain Clinic is for the treatment of dental EMERGENCIES ONLY. These are:

• Trauma
• Swelling
• Uncontrolled bleeding
• Severe pain

The clinic does not have facilities for permanent restoration of lost crowns/bridges or denture repairs. This service is available for dental advice and treatment if necessary from 6pm to 9pm weekday evenings and 09am to 12 midday on Saturday and Sunday mornings and Bank Holidays.

If you require this service you will need to telephone 028 2566 3510 for a dentist to triage your call. The dentist/nurse may provide you with advice over the telephone or invite you to attend for an appointment. Please do not attend the centre without phoning first.
